The Central Highlands Gaba oolong is a ball-shaped, three-times roasted oolong tea from Lâm Hà, Lâm Đồng Province. This tea undergoes an anaerobic process, converting the tea leaves’ natural glutamic acid into gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). Fresh tea leaves are flushed with nitrogen during what is traditionally an ‘oxidation’ process, rewarding us with a distinct tangy and fruity profile. GABA is also found in the human brain, which is known for stabilizing neuronal activity and an increase of GABA may potentially help with relaxation, anxiety, mood.
Lâm Đồng Province is one of the oldest commercially established tea regions in the country, primarily focused on producing oolong tea that follows Taiwanese tea harvesting and processing standards. Many of the tea factories from the area are joint ventures between Vietnamese and Taiwanese companies, with Vietnamese makers leading the way in production.
Although a significant portion of the oolong teas produced in this region are often shipped to Taiwan to be labeled and sold as locally made, a small amount is sold authentically as Vietnamese tea in domestic and other international markets. We're excited to be offering this delicious and stellar example of a Gaba oolong as our first tea from the region!
